Sedona's Castle and the Mystery of the Anasazi
69A Land of Mystery and Intrigue..
The Secrets of an Ancient People..
Sedona is located in Arizona, in an area rich with Native American History and intrigue. Many believe the Peoples Known as the Anasazi built the rock castles as seen in the photos. The Navaho viewed the Anasazi as mysterious and warlike, preferring to keep their distance from them. New research indicates that the Anasazi might have practiced, among other things, human sacrifice and cannabalism, taboo activities for the sensible Navaho. { Is it any wonder that they wanted looked upon them as a threat?} Could the Anasazi have originated in Meso America, where such behavior was common among cultures such as the ancient Tol-Tec?
Artifacts from excavations and information gleamed from rock paintings, indicate that this area has been inhabited by Native Americans for at least 8,000 years. Millions of years ago Sedona was not a panorama of reddish sandstone, but covered with an ancient sea. The wind and natural erosion have worked as a team to create a masterpiece of stunning beauty over the thousands of years.
Today it is inhabited by tourist attractions and an over-abundance of "New Age" outlets, but its mystery and beauty remain intact.

I grew up in an Air Force family. We lived in Tuscon. My mom made sure we saw it all. I have been here and other spots like Chaco Canyon and some Pueblo sites. Checked out the Hopis, Pimas, Maricopa and all. The photos really took me back.

Beautiful photos of Montezuma's Castle and the Sedona area. Interesting information also about the Anasazi. Having visited these spots in person, your hub is a nice reminder of our trips there. I have other hubs about Arizona. If you don't mind I would enjoy linking this hub to one or more of those. Let me know.
